NOTES FROM PENARTH PEERS WI MEETING APRIL 12TH 2023
Julie Davies opened the meeting at 7 pm. She said that the talk about Welsh GI brides will now take place at our June meeting and that after our meeting in May where we will be having our AGM, there will be a party for the Coronation afterwards. She asked that everyone bring either savoury or sweet plates of food to enable this to happen.
She also mentioned about the Garden Party at Margam which is on the 12 th July 2023 and entries need to be in by 2 nd June and hoped to get a group from Penarth to go. She then introduced Deborah John who gave us a wonderful talk on Spring Time. Deborah started off by reminding us about our Lent traditions of Shrove Tuesday etc. She then went on to Welsh traditions and used the Mabinogion and Math of Gwydion relating to Spring - she also incorporated Greek and Roman Legends as well. We were completely enthralled by her as it was so enjoyable and we look forward to seeing her again in the future.
After Deborah had finished Julie told us about PODS producing the musical Chess and suggested getting a group from WI to go and see it. It is on from the 17th - 20 th May.
It was also mentioned that new members are needed for the Committee and she was asking for volunteers as we definitely need 4 new members at least.
She then said that our refreshments were ready - with thanks to Jenny Ingram, Brenda Gibbon and Carol McGilvray who were the tea hostesses for this month. After our very welcome refreshments the meeting was closed at 9 pm.
