NOTES FROM PENARTH PEERS WI MEETING AUGUST 9TH 2023
The meeting was opened at 7pm by Sue Orpin, who introduced herself as Vice President in training.
Chris Curtin gave members details of the BBC studios tour. The bus from Penarth stops outside the BBC studios. Tour slots for Thursday 12th October need to be booked in advance. A list has been started and members asked to add their names to the list if interested. The ticket cost is £12 for over 65’s, reducing to £11 if sufficient people sign up. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes; very little seating is on offer during the tour. Time slots for tours are 10.30, 12.30pm or 3pm, with capacity for 20 people per tour. Rosemary Martin made the point that travel to the venue will be less busy over the lunchtime period.
Julie Davies updated members on the following:
PODS production of Ladies Day: a comedy due to run between Wednesday 11th – Saturday 14th October. Tickets will be £15, reduced to £14.50 if more than 10 people sign up. A sheet has been put out for those interested to add names, and preferred day to attend. Wendy updated members on the Glammies Awards: PODS received a number of nominations, including best male actor for the Full Monty, best actor under 14, best director for the Full Monty, winning best show for the Vale of Glamorgan.
New members: a reminder was given of the importance of extending an inclusive welcome to members old and new, ensuring that all members chat together and are made to feel comfortable within the group. Name badges will be given out at meetings; these are not to be taken home, but will be laid out in alphabetical order on the table, to be collected on arrival.
Rosemary Martin introduced two new members, Barbara Dawes and Helen Blessley. There are currently 55 members, the aim is for group membership not to exceed 60.
The Centenary of the Glamorgan Federation will be marked by a service at Llandaff Cathedral on 2nd September at 11.30. Four tickets have been applied for, more can be requested if members are interested, otherwise places will be decided via a draw.
GDP consent forms will be distributed for signature by all members.
New items on the information board include: Tai Chi taster day; learn how to play whist; GFWI seasonal Dabble Day. These will also be emailed to members.
A delicious fish and chip supper was then enjoyed by all members. Thanks were given to the committee for organising such a pleasant evening.
Thank you to tea hostesses Liz, Ann and Alison and congratulations to raffle prize winners.
