NOTES FROM PENARTH PEERS WI MEETING SEPTEMBER 14th 2022
We all met on Wednesday 14th September and Julie Davies took the meeting.
Julie said what we were all feeling about the death of Queen Elizabeth 2nd having seen her on TV two days before and that it was really a terrific shock and felt also completely surreal. We stood for 1 minutes silence in memory of the Queen and afterwards wished King Charles well in his new role. Julie also read out a very telling poem..
Julie then introduced us to Gareth Bartlett from the company Elderfit. It was inaugurated in 2015 to help Adults and older Adults to help with their mobility issues as one gets older. They also wanted to promote the social side of keeping fit.
Gareth said they include Care Homes, the National Health service, Sport Cardiff etc and anyone needing physio as well as help with lung function, asthma,, stress, sleep issues etc. and teaching people how to get up after falling too!!! Plus muscle weakness and muscle strength, anything to do with well being.
He also said they gave tips on how to manage in your own home with risk factors such as poor lighting, rugs not secured properly, wet floors. Activity would also make one less liable to fall, or become dizzy etc.
He then gave us some exercises to do holding a chair. Heel toe raises, tandem standing, tandem walking and single leg chair raises. He said he held a class at Llandough at 10.30 on Tuesdays but other classes can be seen be on the Elderfit website.
He was a very interesting and enthusiastic speaker and he was given a vote of thanks for his talk.
