NOTES FROM PENARTH PEER WI MEETING – WEDNESDAY 8th NOVEMBER, 2023
The meeting was opened at 7pm by Julie Davies.
Julie thanked the organisers of several recent successful trips to the BBC and POD’s production at the Paget Rooms.
BBC trip: the trip was enjoyed by all; they met several broadcasting stars and one lady was interviewed by Wyn Evans.
Ladies Night POD’s: was agreed to be excellent entertainment, enjoyed by all.
Tea Rota: tea hostesses Brenda, Jane and Chris were thanked; next month’s hostesses are Joan, Angela and Claire, they were reminded that, due to the Christmas party, only teas will be required, not cake.
Remembrance Sunday: Julie asked for volunteers to carry and lay the wreath. The meeting place is 9.45am at the Garden of Remembrance, Rectory Road, where the wreath will be laid, followed by a walk back to All Saints Church.
Christmas meal: taking place at the Star in Dinas Powis, those attending please give Sally £5 deposit.
Aberglasney Christmas Fair: December 1st, cost is £24.50 for the coach and entrance fee. The trip is being organised by Dinas Powis WI. There are currently 5 places remaining, eight members are already attending. If interested, please let Julie know by the end of the evening. Julie will give those attending details of the Dinas Powis WI bank account.
Donations to food bank: it was agreed to collect donations for the Tabernacle Food Bank in lieu of a donation to charity. Suitable items are Christmas treats such as chocolates, biscuits, cakes etc.
Christmas party: the December meeting is the Christmas party. Entertainment will be provided by Penarth Community Choir. It is hoped that choir members will stay on afterwards, so please bring a little extra food to offer guests. There will be approximately 25-30 choir members. Please bring either a sweet or savoury dish, as allocated. The dress code is Christmas sparkle/festive headwear.
Glamorgan experience: Rosemary told members of some of the courses on offer, including watercolours, stained glass etc., more details displayed on the noticeboard.
GP services in Wales: The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales is keen to hear from those 60+ about their experience of GP services, Rosemary can provide copies of the feedback form.
Welsh Women’s Aid: Training is available to raise awareness of violence against women and girls. Rosemary will send more details by email.
Road Signs Concerns: The Federation Chairman has asked about any concerns regarding signage, for example dirty or missing signage. Concerns can be raised with June Humphry, who will write to The Minister of Transport on behalf of WI members.

Quiz: anyone interested in a quiz in St. Augustine’s next Thursday, please see Joyce.
