NOTES FROM PENARTH PEERS ANNUAL MEETING 7pm Wednesday April 10th 2024

Our President, Julie Davies, welcomed members to the meeting which was the 15th annual meeting of Penarth Peers WI.
Members were asked to vote on the WI resolution “Dental health matters” which is being taken forward to the NFWI annual meeting in June. There was unanimous support for the resolution and our representative will vote accordingly.
Julie welcomed Vivienne Hayes, our Adviser, to the meeting and thanked her for attending.
Financial report Rosemary Martin presented the financial statement (see below) and went through the figures. There was a question about our insurance cover and Rosemary confirmed that members were covered during any WI activity .
Secretary’s report (see below) Liz Mathew presented her report on our activities through the year.
Julie thanked members of Penarth Peers for their support. The committee were thanked for their hard work throughout the year, attending monthly committee meetings and organising all our activities. A volunteer is needed to coordinate the Refreshment rota taking over the role from Lynne Hutchings.
Fundraising event A fundraising coffee morning has been arranged at Elfed Avenue church Hall for Saturday May 18th from 10.30am – 12.30. Entry will be £3 to include coffee/tea and cake. We need donations of cakes, good quality books, raffle prizes and tombola items wrapped in eco friendly newspaper. The tombola will be £1.
Money raised from the event will be donated to the Vale Domestic Abuse Services (formerly Atal y Fro). Linda Prytherch gave information about the service, which provides emergency and ongoing support for women and girls affected by domestic abuse, with advice, accommodation and education. Information can be found on their website www.valedas.org
Outing A trip for members has been arranged by Chris Curtin and Anita Jenkins on Friday July 5th to Llancaiach Fawr Manor. The coach will leave All Saints Church at 10am , the tour will be at 11.30am followed by a delicious afternoon tea (lunch!) at 1pm. We will leave the Manor at 3pm and return to Penarth by about 4pm. The cost of the tour and tea is £15.95, the coach will be paid from our funds. Members were asked to sign up for the trip.
Theatre group Tickets will be purchased for those wishing to see The Producers at the Paget Rooms on Wednesday May 15th £15.50.
Dinas Powys WI have organised a fashion show on Friday April 26th at Murchfield Community Hall, 6pm doors open, start 7pm. £8 to include a glass of wine.
Elfed Ave Seniors Club An outing has been arranged for Tuesday June 11th , to Monmouth and Raglan Garden Centre £20
The Programme for the coming year is almost complete and will be available at our next meeting.
Election of President All current members of the committee are willing to continue . Several were nominated for President but declined to stand. Julie was willing to be our president again which was much appreciated by the members with a round of applause. The committee then had a short meeting with Vivienne, our adviser.
After the formal business of the meeting was completed, members enjoyed a fun and entertaining quiz. Refreshments were served by Lynne Hutchings, Pam Farrell and Liz Mathew. The delicious cakes included one provided by Pat Wright.
The raffle was drawn with Julie winning the first prize.
The meeting closed at 9pm.
